The Goal: Refreshing
We knew we wanted to paint the new floors on the porch, since the porch floors had been painted before, but this time we gave them a entertaining diamond layout which added some visual attention. The result was a fun, historic nod to the floors of the age, but with a new, contemporary texture.
So Pay Attention to the Shapes of Your flooring, it can make a big difference.
After much debate, we decided to replace the porch railings rather than reuse the previous ones.
When they were painted and installed, the result was a more open-feeling area that allowed the view to glow, and took away the”I’m trapped in an outdoor cage” vibe of the previous railings, therefore we were exceptionally happy with the shift.
The paint and railing created the room feel inviting, and spacious, fresh. Just a few more touches were required to complete the transformation.
It’s Still Your House
Our ultimate aim was to make the outside space in the back feel like an extension of the interior of our house, so we needed to add functional comforts– like chairs and outdoor tables. Even better, lights came in white, therefore they were appealing and non-obtrusive looking– throughout the day time.
We used wall planters for plants. The planters were painted, were framed out by a 4ft x window frame (super cheap option)– which we cleaned up and screwed into the siding.
The Goal: Relaxing
We are so excited that our little backyard corner is the inviting, comfy and safe space we had envisioned, instead of the dirty death trap it was. We believe that the area has added value to our home, and spend as much time enjoying this place. We realized that using the process and products, even the smallest space can have a huge effects.
